Engine building at Race Shack so whats the deal?

Here at RACE SHACK we build predominantly T1 and T4 VW flat 4 engines - although we do work on all types of engine, and the types of engine we tune on the dyno is unlimited.

Here is how it works - so you want a big flat four engine and you know how fast or quick you would like to go - how can we help?

Ideally you bring your car to us and we stick you in the car and then the whole lot on the corner weight scales - this gives us the total mass of the vehicle only armed with this can we target an engine recipe to suit - then you tell us how quick you would like the car to be - using our mass and acceleration calculations we can then come up with a target rolling torque, engine torque and engine BHP from this your engine specification or recipe is born.

With an agreed recipe we then generate a list of all the components required and you the customer can either then supply these to us or we can source and supply every component for you - you pay us for the parts up front or if you supply us the parts then your paying nothing to us yet.

Once we have a clean kit ( that is to say everything in hand to complete the job and the entire kit has been inspected and accepted ) then we can give you a promise date for delivery - you don't pay a penny for your build until its completed. Ideally you visit us again here at RACE SHACK before we close your case - so you can see all your parts in your case and the work thats been done before we continue on.

With the engine complete you deliver your vehicle to us - we then install your new engine in your vehicle completing the first fire, cam break in and then tuning the car on the Dynamometer - if you like we can also break in the rings for you too using Dyno test programs specifically written in partnership with ring manufacturers to accomplish this - they produce an ideal condition to break in your rings so you can drive your car away ready to enjoy! that's right no running in !

Only once the engine has made target BHP on our rollers do you pay for your build. Don't fork out for what is a major investment in the dark - get a RACE SHACK motor and you drive your car on our Dyno to see what power it makes - you see the data collected real time and then you go for a test drive - we guarantee satisfaction as we don't take a penny for the build, install test and tune until you the customer are happy.

We at RACE SHACK provide a more comprehensive pack of build data than any other UK based engine builder and I've yet to see anyone else in the world provide the same amount of data to their customer. Ask yourself this if you don't have cam data for your cam in your engine measured at every valve then how can you tell if a lobe has gone flat in the cam break in or subsequently? - answer you cant! - you cant rely on the cam card as it wont match the actual lift in your engine - it has to be measured in your application to be accurate! Do you know what your deck height was set in your build? the CC of your heads? the final compression ratio? do you know what the end float was in your build ? do you know the journal sizes and condition and tolerance of all the turning parts as they went in, do you know the mass and final balance weight of every component in the turning assembly? do you have data on the leakdown tests before and after the engine was first fired ?- was the person who built your engine working within a quality system that meant no matter how good or experienced they are at the task their work was checked by a third party at key points? - human beings can make mistakes! working within a quality system ensures a robust build. These are just some examples of some of the data we collect during a quality controlled build and provide to our customers.
